Welcome from MDS-AOS Chair Shen-Yang Lim

MDS-AOS Chair

It is my pleasure, as MDS-Asian & Oceanian Section Chair, to welcome you to the MDS-Asian & Oceanian Section.

MDS is the premier organization dedicated to disseminating knowledge and understanding about Movement Disorders. Importantly, the Society and its leaders have a global outlook and outreach, and are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness. My first involvement with the MDS was participating at the MDS International Congress in Kyoto, Japan, in 2006. Since then, I have had the honour and enjoyment to serve in various capacities within the Society, including as the MDS-AOS Education Chair from 2015-17 and MDS-AOS Secretary from 2017-19. Over the years, I have always been struck by how friendly and collegial people are within the Movement fraternity, and how truly fortunate we all are to be able to interact, share experiences, make friends, and collaborate with support from the Society.

The MDS-AOS will continue to provide high-quality and relevant in-person and online education to our constituents within the Society, and beyond. Colleagues in movement disorders and neuroscience, including (and especially) trainees, young neurologists, and allied health specialists are warmly welcome to participate, both as teachers and learners. Additionally, we continue to encourage engagement with the Asian & Oceanian network of national movement disorder societies (MDS Affiliate Member Societies).

During my term, I hope to capitalize on the talents of the AOS Executive and Education Committees, to build upon the successes of existing educational and training programs. We will work together to prioritize opportunities for Movement Disorders research and research collaborations, within and beyond the region. I hope you agree that this is a crucial next step for the AOS family, and I thank you in advance for your support.

If you are a current MDS member, thank you for being a part of this organization! If you are not yet an MDS member, I invite you to join today. There are many membership options available, with several being free. For more information, or to renew your membership, please visit the MDS Membership webpage.

Thank you for your continued interest and engagement in MDS and MDS-AOS activities. I welcome your input and feedback at any time. Please contact MDS-AOS Regional Manager, Emily Santeler at esanteler@movementdisorders.org for my contact information.

With best regards,

Shen-Yang Lim, MBBS, MD, FRACP FASc
